I started this blog back in December 2014 so I am complete newbie! It was something I had been thinking about for ages and eventually decided to bite the bullet and go for it. I wanted to create a lifestyle blog that captured pretty much everything, was fun to read and sort of light and fluffy I was finishing my Masters Degree at the time so maybe it wasn’t the best time for me to start, but hey, there will ALWAYS be something to put you off.
So, i wanted to put together my 5 blogging rules that I kept close to me as I started the blog. Blogging is a complete learn-as-you-go, which can be fun and crazy all the same time
1. Be Positive
This really relates to me AND my posts. I’m not talking about “not giving a disappointing review” of something. It is mainly concerned with my outlook. There are posts that i have done that don’t get liked, or nobody reads or nobody wants to share. But hey, that’s ok. While I want to write things that people want to read and like, I just had to realise that starting out, it will be like this. It made it easier when I shifted the focus to writing the blog “for me” and not writing it “for the sake of writing a blog”, that it made it more of a positive thing
2. Blog About What You Would Like To Read
When you write about what you love and what you would like to read, it makes your posts more passionate and real. There is nothing worse than trying to piece together a whole lot of crapola about something you a. don’t know and b. couldn’t give two hoots about – believe me, I have written many a college assignment! Keeping your issues close to your heart will also allow you to connect to people who are like-minded!
3. Be Honest
There is absolutely no point in having a blog that you are not going to be honest about. You have to have a bit of faith in your readers – they’re not stupid. It’s very easy to pick out reviewers, writers and bloggers who are ranting and raving on about products or places that are “amazing” because they are getting something in return – whether is be freebies or money. Their followers won’t last and their credibility will be tainted. Being honest will allow people to connect to the real you. Disclaimer: I’m not talking about tidying the room just at camera view in order to get a good picture while the rest of the room remains a messy ball of dirty clothes and magazines. I mean, that’s just life!
4. Be Fun
Nobody wants to read a dull and depressing blog – where’s the fun in that? I love to read blogs and posts that inspire me and give me ideas that I never thought of. I love, love, love reading about interior design, make up and food – seeing new creations each and every time. It makes the world a bigger place when your learn new things. Have fun with your blog and everyone wins
5. Enjoy it
Well this pretty much goes without saying. Whether you blog each evening or once a week, make your area comfortable and relaxing. Blogging should be something you look forward to doing, and if you are going to put your time, energy and name to something, then it should be enjoyed
Love, P x
